New Jeezy!

Still shouting JEAH! YEEEEEEEEEEEAH! and EY! every bar, the new Jeezy is sounding good on first listen. Here's the first track from The Inspiration-Thug Motivation 102, "Hypnotize". Not sure how I feel about the 'devil' voices backing him up on the chorus and I'm pretty sure he's saying "Hypmotize" but I dig everything else about this one, especially the production.

New Clipse!

At last, there is a contender for album of the year...Clipse's "Hell Hath No Fury", to be released at the end of this month, contains the best production effort from the Neptunes in years who in my mind are the stars of this record. The production is dark, minimal and at times very sci-fi - most songs sound like warped versions of would-be club records. Maybe the best example of this, also happening to be my favourite song on the record, is Trill...posted below:

Kaboom, kaboom, kaboom!

The video for "World Destruction" by Afrika Bambaataa's Time Zone! John Lydon turns in a reasonable performance as an angry politico-terrorist/maniac/sociopath, but Afrika -- playing what can best be described as "himself" -- sort of phones it in. Anyway, worth a look. I love this song.

While we're at it, here's the MP3. Has anyone heard any other TZ records?

M & M & M & M & M & M & M

There is little question that Eminem’s provocations are best understood in terms of his pandering to the ‘tween and early-teenage age groups. What, if not an astute awareness of the buying power of these children, would motivate Slim to squeeze his reminiscences into a narrative plucked directly from the Mighty Duck series?

And what, if not a similar demographic bent, would motivate Slim to commission the cover illustration of his latest project over orange soda and licorice whips in a tenth grade art class?

HUSTLIN' AND SHUFFLIN'

Just a quick post before I do a real post, and just to let all of you hear, unless you've already heard it, the new Jim Jones remix. Now, as you probably know, Jim Jones has a hit right now with We Fly High,I don't particularly care for this song but even worse is the NY Giants remix. Apparently the NY Giants have adopted the We Fly High dance move (a mimed basketball three pointer) as their new touchdown dance, and this has given Jim Jones the impetus to make a remix for the Giants by infusing the song with new Football imagery and Football chants. This song is nowhere near as bad/good as the 1985 Chicago Bears' Superbowl Shuffle, and thankfully it clocks in at a third of the time, yet it possesses much of the cheesy comedy that can emerge when rap and Football join forces.
